The emergence of LED lighting is the World’s biggest revolution in lighting technology since the replacement of petrol or gas lamps by electric lighting, during the late 19th Century.
LED fixtures are now available in a wide range of models, covering the needs of:
- Commercial units: shops and supermarkets, shopping centres, banks and offices, hotels and restaurants;
- Education, leisure and health facilities: schools, sports grounds and gymnasiums, libraries, theatres, cultural centres, clinics and hospitals;
- Private living quarters: flats and houses.
Why switch to LED technology ?
Switching to LED technology not only improves the quality of lighting, but also allows substantial electricity consumption savings.
Let’s take one concrete example: we have an existing classic light fixture of 4 x 60cm/18W fluorescent tubes. The power of such fixture is 4 x 18 = 72W for the tubes, plus 17-18W for the ballast trigger mechanism, total 89-90W.
LED Option 1: by simply replacing the existing 60cm fluorescent tubes for 60cm LED tubes, power is reduced to 10W only per tube and, as LED technology does not require any ballast trigger mechanism, the total power is 4 x 10 = 40W only.
89 – 40 = 49W reduction, or 55% energy saving.
LED Option 2: by replacing the existing fluorescent panel by exclusive LED grille, power is reduced to 26W only.
89 – 26 = 63W reduction, or 70% energy saving.
And LED grille design is unique and unchallenged by world brands such as Philips or Siemens.
LED Option 3: by replacing the existing fluorescent panel by LED spot light, power is reduced to 14W only.
89 – 14 = 75W reduction, or 84% energy saving.
Above is only an example of changing fluorescent lighting for LED technology, but LED use allows similar electricity savings when replacing other classic types of lighting, such as incandescent lamps.
On top of allowing substantial savings on electricity costs, LED technology also present the following advantages:
- Durability: about 30,000 hours (or circa 7 years, if used 12 hours per day), against about 10,000 hours only for fluorescent tubes (and even much less for other classic types of lighting, such as incandescent bulbs);
- Low installation and maintenance cost;
- Stronger lighting intensity;
- No stroboscopic effect, less eye fatigue, no blink on computer screens.
